Our History
Chan & Chia was established on 15th September 1972 by Tan Sri Dato’ Chan Choong Tak and John Chia Sin Tet. Not long after, the firm was joined by Joseph Chia En Tet. Each partner, being highly accomplished legal professionals and outstanding members of society, built the firm into what it is today.
Over the years, Chan & Chia has built a solid reputation in the local community for delivering high quality legal advice and services while treating each person with care, dignity and respect. From the very beginning, the local community has always been the focus of our firm’s practice and this is evident from the strong network of relationships the firm has built over the years.
Chan & Chia’s traditions, culture, and legal expertise have been passed down the line to its current partners and remains the core element of our practice today.

Our Founding Partners

Tan Sri Dato' Chan Choong Tak
Tan Sri Dato' Chan Choong Tak began his career as a government teacher and later completed his Barrister-at-Law examinations in 1969 and was subsequently called to the Malaysian Bar in 1970. He was also a holder of a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Ohio University, USA.
Not only did he establish the law firm Messrs Chan & Chia in 1972, he later went on to wear many hats. He served as Chairman of the N.S. Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia as well as the Secretary General of the party. He was appointed as a Senator, Deputy Speaker and finally as a speaker of the Malaysian Senate. He also served as a Director of Tenaga Nasional Berhad and few of its subsidiaries. He also served as a member of the Advisory Committee on Cluster Schoold and was the former Chairman of HeveaBoard and its subsidiary, HeveaPac.
On a voluntary basis, he served as the Old Paulian's Association (OPA) President and Advisor, Chairman of the Board of Manafers of the Saint Paul's Institution Primary School and Director of the Board of Governors of the Saint Paul's Institution Secondary School. He was the past President of many other organisations including the Federation of La Salle Associations in Malaysia, the Seremban Half Marathon, the Seremban Hash House Harriers, the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Negeri Sembilan as well as the Rotary Club of Seremban.
Tan Sri Dato Chan Choong Tak was know for being active in sports as well as an avid mountain climber, having climed most well known mountains in Malaysia. At the age of 70 he climbed to the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro and was later recorded in the Malaysian Book of Records as the oldest Malaysian Man to have reached the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro at the time.
He was awarded the title of Tan Sri and Dato' for his outstanding contributions to society. He was highly respected in the legal fraternity as well as in political circles.
